“The Great Backyard Bird Count” slated for February 15-18, 2013
This on-line citizen science event monitors populations and movements of birds in winter has seen significant participation from bird enthusiasts in the Northwoods. This year the event, a joint project of Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, Audubon and Bird Studies Canada, will occur globally across 7 continents.
Last year citizens from more than Eighteen Northwoods communities watched birds and reported their results on-line. Statewide, Wisconsin birders observed 138 species and counted more than 216,000 birds in 2012. Nationwide, participants observed 623 species and more than 17 million birds!
