Faster Internet service, fine forgiveness at Rhinelander District Library

As a holiday treat, the Rhinelander District Library is installing a much faster Internet connection and will also be forgiving overdue fines.

The library director, Ed Hughes, said that in nontechnical terms, the new Internet connection is “smoking,” and verging on “blazing.” In technical terms, the library will have 50 mbps, compared to the 15 mbps that they currently have. Because their phone system is also with the same vendor, their telephone bill will go down.

“Overall, we expect to save about seventy dollars per month with the switch to Charter,” Hughes said. The transition is expected to be completed by Dec. 18.

At this time, those who have overdue fines at the library may ask a librarian for fine forgiveness. Overdue fines will be forgiven in exchange for a nonperishable food item, which will be donated to the food pantry. This fine forgiveness only runs through the end of December, 2012.
