Alzheimer's Association presents program about Alzheimer's and the holidays

Nov. 30, 2012 | 0 comments

Beginning with the Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, a workshop presented by the Alzheimer's Association, is open to anyone who would like to know more about Alzheimer's and related dementias. This workshop also includes care partner tips appropriate for the holiday season.

The holiday season can be filled with many different activities, emotions and traditions. For persons affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, these times can be particularly stressful and chaotic. While persons with dementia should be included in the traditions of the season, care should be taken to avoid "overload" that disrupts the comforting daily routine.

Beginning with the Basics: Alzheimer's and the Holidays will be held in various locations throughout the region:

Dec. 4 - 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rhinelander District Library, 106 N. Stevens St., Rhinelander

Dec 11 - 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Minocqua Public Library, 415 Menomonie St., Minocqua

Dec. 13 - 5 to 7 p.m. at Aspirus Regency Adult Day Center, 615 Peterson Ave., Phillips

Those who attend will be able to enjoy time together with other care partners. Holiday treats will also be provided.

The workshop is free and no registration is necessary. The workshop is made possible in part by the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's®. For a list of all programs, more information on Alzheimer's disease, to volunteer or to become involved in Walk to End Alzheimer's®, visit alz.org/gwwi or call (800) 272-3900.
