Ascension supports Dr. Kate Museum
Leaders from Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension, joined with board members from the Dr. Kate Museum in Woodruff to provide a $19,000 donation to the Woodruff historical institution.
Funds for the donation were finalized as part of the transfer agreement for “The Big Penny” in Woodruff from Howard Young Medical Center to the Dr. Kate Museum which took place in June.
Located at the corner of Second Avenue and Hemlock Street, The Big Penny was established to commemorate the success of a campaign held in 1953 to raise the funds to construct the areas first hospital Lakeland Memorial Hospital. The nearby museum around the corner is the repository for memorabilia for Dr. Kate Pelham Newcomb.
“We are grateful for the Museum’s continued efforts to preserve the legacy of Dr. Kate who laid the foundation for health care services in our community,” said Sandy Anderson, president of Howard Young Medical Center.
