HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Hodags advance to sectional in 8 weight classes
Five RHS wrestlers win regional titles

Eight Rhinelander High School wrestlers have advanced to the sectional level with a top-four finish in Saturday’s WIAA Division 1 Regional at Wisconsin Rapids.
Five Hodags also won a regional title with Reuben Guzik (113), Tyler Olson (120), Jacob DeMeyer (145), Alec Kurtz (195) and Colton Krueger (220) winning all of their matches. Guzik, Olson and Kurtz went 3-0 for the tournament with DeMeyer and Krueger going 2-0 after quarterfinal byes.
RHS’s Tim Fox (106) placed third, while Walker Hartman (138) and Erik Grulke (160) finished fourth to also advance to next Saturday’s WIAA Division 1 Individual Sectional at Wausau West.
The top-two finishers at each of the eight Division 1 individual sectionals will advance to the WIAA Individual State Tournament being held Feb. 22-24 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
REGIONAL TEAM RESULTS
The Hodags have been eliminated from further team competition after placing third at the Wisconsin Rapids Regional. Marshfield topped the team standings with 232.5 points to advance to Tuesday’s WIAA Division 1 Team Sectional it will host against Hudson. Wisconsin Rapids (212.5) was the regional runner-up, followed by RHS (187), D.C. Everest (136), Stevens Point (129.5), Merrill (118), Wausau West (106) and Wausau East (27).
