BOYS SOCCER: Hodags down Eagles, remain undefeated in GNC

Sole possession of first place in the Great Northern Conference was on the line Tuesday night at Mike Webster Stadium when the Rhinelander High School varsity boys soccer team defeated Northland Pines, 3-1.
After the Eagles tallied the first goal 5:19 into the game, the Hodags did the rest of the scoring.
RHS tied the game at 1-1 at the 13:51 mark on a goal from Matthew Von Oepen assisted by Jonus Sabani.
The game remained deadlocked until after halftime when Sabani added a pair of goals, one unassisted 10:44 into the second half and the other less than 2 minutes later on an assist by Hugh Wiese.
The Hodags ended up with a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal with Josh Randolph recording the win in net.
The victory improved RHS’s season record to 4-0 in the GNC and 7-2-1 overall going into Thursday’s conference game at Medford.
