GIRLS TENNIS: Hodags open season 2-3 at Wausau West Invite
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Rhinelander High School girls tennis team opened the season with five matches at an invitational Monday and Tuesday hosted by Wausau West.
The Hodags went 2-3 for the two days, defeating La Crosse Logan, 5-2, losing to Wausau West, 2-5, losing to Wausau Newman, 1-6, defeating D.C. Everest, 7-0, and losing to Menominee, 2-5.
“This team needs experience and we got a ton of it with this tournament,” said RHS head coach Bob Heideman. “While (the won-loss record) we would have liked a little better, I liked what we got out of our play.
“With these long days, especially early in the season with a young team, you want to see improvement. That’s what we saw. For four of our sophomores it was their first extensive varsity experience.”
In the five matches played at the invitational, the Hodags’ Alexis Pyrchalla and Madi Losch went 4-1 for the tournament in No. 2 doubles.
“They are building some successful patterns,” Heideman said.
