OBITUARY: Peter W. Denis
Peter W. Denis, age 92 of Rhinelander, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Rennes Health and Rehab. He was born May 28, 1924, in Brainerd, Minn. to George and Esther Denis.
Pete was raised and attended school in Brainerd. After graduation, he followed the family path and was employed as a carman with the Northern Pacific Railroad. Pete ended his 40-year career in railroading as the locomotive and car foreman for the Soo Line Railroad in Rhinelander. He then began his second career with Northstar Steel Fabricating in Rhinelander where he worked for 35 years.
Pete married Mildred Borders February 6, 1945, in Brainerd, Minn. and together they raised their family of four children. He was a true family man and loved time spent with them. He enjoyed many trips with his wife to their second home in Brainerd. Pete will be fondly remembered as a man who instilled the values of hard work and appreciation of family in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
Pete is survived by his wife, Mildred Denis of Rhinelander; two daughters, Linda (Roger) Gaber of Marshville, N.C. and Jeanne (Wally) Pilbeam of Rhinelander; two sons, Michael (Mary) Denis and Mark (Mary) Denis both of Rhinelander; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jason Gaber and a sister, Donna Mary Hasskamp.
The funeral service for Pete will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) with Father Randy Knauf officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Condolences to the Denis family may be directed at www.carlsonfh.com.
