Elizabeth “Betty” J. Pence, age 83, of Monico, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at her home. Betty was born in Monico June 27, 1933, to James and Margaret (Huven) Roberts. She attended Monico Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of Three Lakes High School. She was united in marriage on Dec. 11, 1965 to Floyd Pence. The family moved to Albany, where they owned and operated Pence Salvage. Floyd and Betty would eventually move back to Monico to enjoy their retirement.
Betty was a member of Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church and St. Jude Shrine. She will always be remembered for her deep faith. Betty enjoyed a good rummage sale, reading, taking trips to the casino, and lottery cards. But most of all, Betty loved her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. She especially loved children.
She is survived by a son, George “Butch” (Cheryl) Rank of Monico; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Jane) Roberts and Jerry (Susan) Roberts, all of Rhinelander and by four sisters, Marcia Rudis of Rhinelander, Ruth (Roger) Reader of Rhinelander, Doris Coppenger of Stevens Point and Bonnie Roberts of Monico. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Pence; daughter, Susan Monk; granddaughter, Sherry (Rank) Jarosz; two brothers, Al and George Roberts and one sister, Patricia Roberts.
Visitation for Betty will be heldFriday, Aug. 26 at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service. The officiant will be Fr. Randy Knauf. Interment will immediately follow at Monico Cemetery.
