OBITUARY: John R. Winat
John R. Winat, age 52, of Rhinelander, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at Friendly Village under the care of Ministry Home Care & Hospice. He was born May 17, 1964 in Rhinelander to Robert and Kathleen (Kelly) Winat. He attended South Park Elementary School and RCC. John attended Rhinelander High School.
He moved to Elcho where he lived for several years. John lived in the Cable, Wisconsin area where he had owned and operated John’s Auto Repair. He was known to be able to fix or repair anything. He lived in Hayward, Wisconsin where he was employed with Scheer’s Lumberjack Show, Apex Surveying, and was a fishing guide. He was united in marriage to Merlena Kelley on September 23, 1995 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cable, Wisconsin. They later were divorced. John moved back to Elcho, Wisconsin in 2008 and has lived in Rhinelander since 2012. John enjoyed hunting, getting together with friends for socializing but most of all John loved to fish, especially on Lake Superior.
John is survived by his parents, Robert Winat of Rhinelander and Kathleen Kelly of Elcho; one son, Bryon Hartung of Star Prairie; one brother, Dr. Ronald (Samantha) Williams of River Hills and one sister, Kelly Connor of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are one nephew, Michael Connor and one niece, Michaela Connor; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Norman and Alice Kelly and Henry and Leone Winat. Visitation for John will be held Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service. The funeral service will be conducted by Fr. Randy Knauf. A luncheon will follow in the banquet room at the funeral home. Following the luncheon all are invited to attend the committal service at the Elcho Cemetery.
