Marjorie A. Olander, age 89, of Rhinelander, died on August 14, 2016, at the Country Terrace in Rhinelander. Marjorie was born in Esmond, S.D. January 25, 1927 to Frank and Minnie (Helgerson) Goddard.
After her schooling at UW Whitewater, Marjorie had worked in the Oneida County Clerk’s office and then went to work for the U.S. Forest Service. She was with the Forest Service from November of 1969 until her retirement in January of 1989. During those years she had also worked at the Montgomery Wards store in Rhinelander.
Marjorie had a lot of interests. At the top of the list was her membership in the First United Methodist Church. She was active in her church and served as treasurer for a number of years. She loved the Goddard family reunions and she enjoyed quilting, traveling, fishing and volunteering. Beyond her efforts at church, Marjorie was also a member of the Womens Club and volunteered where needed at the Ministry St. Mary’s Hospital. Besides the reunion, the times spent with family at “The Shack” on Dumbbell Lake, were awfully special to her.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Sandra Ebert of Rhinelander and Bethel Fredrickson of San Diego, Calif.; her sons, David (Linda) Olander of Swansboro, Ga. and Paul (Patricia) Olander of Menasha; her seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marine Sobieski, Joann Heise, Bethel Nystrom and Beverly Gaber; her brothers, Donald (Joyce )Goddard and Kenneth (Ruth) Goddard, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband David in 1981; her parents; two grandsons, James Fredrickson and David S. Olander; brother, Dean and sisters, Frances and Jean.
Funeral services for Marjorie will be held Friday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ellen Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.
