Obituary: Shirley A. Hall
Shirley A. Hall, age 80 of Rhinelander, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Ministry St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born in Rhinelander September 21, 1935 to Berl and Laura (Bergeon) Winchell. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Rhinelander High School. She was united in marriage on June 4, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church to Douglas Hall. The couple celebrated over sixty years of marriage. She was employed as a Legal Secretary for O’Melia and Kaye Law Firm, and was a Switchboard Operator for 11 years with Bell Telephone and later was employed with Allen Bradley for two years before retiring.
Shirley was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Barb Smith, to Nevada, California, and Mexico. She also enjoyed knitting and reading, especially mystery novels. Shirley had been active at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she assisted with funeral luncheons. She was also involved with the Nicolet Coralliers.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Douglas; four sons, Edward (Kim) Hall of Tomahawk, Mike (Mary) Hall, Tim (Pam) Hall, and Patrick (Mary Ellen) Hall all of Rhinelander; grandchildren, Nathan (Samantha) Hall of Appleton, Ben (Lisa) Hall of Eau Claire, Sarah (James) Schmidt of Okinawa, Japan, Andy (Amber) Hall of Hamilton, Illinois, Dennis Hall of Rhinelander, Amanda Hall of Rhinelander, Adam Cook of Rhinelander, and David Cook of Green Bay. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Cashton, Macklin, Henry, Cody, Alex, Brayden and Jackson Hall and Holleigh and Jameson Schmidt. Shirley is further survived by one brother, Jerry Winchell of Madison; two sisters, Sally (William) Voight of Arizona, Debby (Gary) Martin of Rhinelander; lifelong friend, Barb Smith of Rhinelander; and by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Berl and Laura Winchell and by a sister-in-law, Judy Winchell.
The visitation for Shirley will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home from 10:30 until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service. Chaplain John Uhlarik will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
