Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department week in review
A 30-year old Tomahawk man was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after a traffic stop in the City of Tomahawk. A Deputy stopped the vehicle on Leather Ave. after he noted it kept crossing the center line as the vehicle traveled on North Fourth Street. When contact was made with the driver he displayed signs of intoxication and after field sobriety tests the man was taken into custody for a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was later released to a responsible party after being booked into the Lincoln County Jail.
A 42-year old Merrill man was arrested Tuesday evening on a disorderly conduct charge after Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the Town of Rock Falls. Just after 10 p.m. a cell caller reported the incident on Mary Todd Court. The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was able to post bond and be released.
A Deputy assisted in capturing another bald eagle that was apparently struck by a motor vehicle. On Thursday afternoon cell callers reported the injured bird near the off ramp to US Hwy 8 to US Hwy 51. Representatives from a wildlife rehabilitation center along with a volunteer from a Tomahawk animal care program assisted in capturing the bird. Wild Instincts Animal Center in Rhinelander reported the badly injured bird died while being transported to their facility.
A 19-year old Tomahawk man was arrested early Saturday morning on a probation violation charge. A Deputy stopped a vehicle on US Hwy 51 at County Rd V just after midnight for speeding. A check showed the passenger in the vehicle was on probation and as a rule he was not allowed to drink alcohol. When the man was asked to step from the vehicle, Deputies found an open can of beer at his feet. A breath test later confirmed he was drinking. The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he remains. He was also cited for underage drinking.
A 26-year old Washburn man was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in the Town of Birch. A Deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on US Hwy 51 at County Rd V just after midnight. A check showed the driver was wanted by the Oneida County Sheriff for contempt of court. The man was taken into custody on the warrant charge and brought to the county line where he was turned over to a Deputy from Oneida County. He was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
A 36-year old Plover man was arrested early Sunday morning after Price County Deputies requested assistance locating a domestic disturbance that was happening in a vehicle. Price County was trying to catch up to the vehicle as it traveled east on US Hwy 8 from their county. They were able to stop the vehicle on US Hwy 8 near County Rd CC. While the Price County Deputy investigated the disturbance Lincoln County Deputies noted the driver showed signs of impairment. He was placed through field sobriety tests and was arrested on a misdemeanor fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The man was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a pipe he admitted he uses to smoke marijuana was found on him. The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was later released after posting a cash bond.
The number of car deer crashes is the same as last week with eight being reported. A Milwaukee woman struck a turkey last Monday evening on US Hwy 51 near County Rd K at Irma, causing damage to her windshield. That vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
