Obituary: Dale J. Wege
Dale J. Wege, age 59, of Rhinelander, died on June 1, 2015. He was born in Rhinelander on June 27, 1955 to David and Kathleen(Simon)Wege.
Dale attended schools here graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1973. He was a member of the RHS swim team all four years. After his graduation he was employed by Frasiers and Triumph Twist Drill before enlisting in the US Navy. He served with the the US Navy in San Diego and the Phillipines. Upon his honorable discharge in 1978 he returned to Rhinelander and soon thereafter met Jan Smoczyk whom he then married on October 15, 1983. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage and raised two sons. After his military service Dale was employed by Silent Knight security until 1989. He then was employed as a fireman/EMT for the Rhinelander Fire Department. Dale was with the fire department for over 25 years and had attained the rank of Deputy Chief at the time of his retirement. During this time he also served as an EMT instructor at Nicolet College.
Dale was always busy with many projects. He loved to fish, hunt, especially Ruffed Grouse, golf, play softball, and spend time at the cabin. In his retirement he also served on the Pine Lake Fire Dept., volunteered with the Boy Scouts at Camp Tesomas. You also could not mention Dale without mentioning the Hodag Country Fest of which he was a fixture. Dale was always meeting new people and sharing many stories. He and Jan had plans for camping trips, Brewer games and traveling after his retirement. Most importantly with Dale however, was that he was a teacher to his sons, an inspiration in many ways to his wife and great support for his daughter in law Ellen.
Survivors include his wife Janice, son Andrew(Ellen)Wege of Rhinelander, his mother Kathleen Wege of Rhinelander, his two sisters Cindy(Bob)Tuman of Newland, NC and Susan Wege of Rhinelander, his two brothers Bryan(Rita)Wege of Woodruff, WI and Jack(Susan)Wege of Milwaukee, WI, his mother in law Joan Smoczyk of Rhinelander, many nieces and nephews, a lot of other family, including all his special in laws, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father David and his son Brandon.
Visitation for Dale will be held on Saturday, June 13th, 2015 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Carlson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, June 13th, 2015 at the Carlson Funeral Home with Deacon Ron Bosi officiating. In lieu of other considerations a memorial is being established in Dale’s name and anyone wishing to do so may direct them to his family.
