There has been much talk the past couple of months about the sale of Foster and Smith to Petco. While one of the articles that was published noted “long term plan is for operations to remain in Rhinelander,” I don’t think any of the articles truly reflected how the employees and our community were protected in this sale. Many times when it comes down to the final negotiations of a sale the concern for employees or keeping jobs in town that was originally there gets overlooked. That was certainly not the case with this sale and I think it is important for everyone to know that. Drs. Foster and Smith is a successful and well respected firm and Petco was not the only company that expressed an interest in purchasing them. Both Drs. Foster and Smith should be commended for selecting a company that would honor their wishes to protect the jobs of current employees and enhance the community with additional jobs. Thank you Marty and Race for your devotion to Rhinelander; we are all fortunate that you chose to grow your business here and wish you well in the future.
