Lakeland Performing Arts lists upcoming concerts, names officers
The 2014-15 season marks the 33rd year the Lakeland Performing Arts Association (LPAA) has sponsored live entertainment for the greater Lakeland area. All performances are held in the auditorium at Lakeland Union High School (LUHS), 9573 Hwy. 70 West, Minocqua, and begin at 7 p.m.
This season’s concert season series opens Thursday, Sept. 25, with the return of the Wisconsin Singers.
Other 2014-15 concerts include cellist Amit Peled Wednesday, Dec. 3; comedian and ventriloquist Todd Oliver and Friends Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015; Rebecca and Kuba, who perform a variety of vocal duos and solos, on Thursday, March 26; and The Step Crew, who perform three styles of exhilarating dance forms, Friday, May 15.
On Oct. 8, 2014, the LPAA will join for the first time with the Campanile Center for the Arts in co-sponsoring a performance by the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, a string orchestra from Moscow, Russia. The concert will be held at the Campanile Center beginning at 7 p.m.
At its annual board meeting in May, Deane Galloway was re-elected as president of the LPAA. Don Gauger was elected vice-president and Phil Strand was elected treasurer. Sally Kunkel was re-elected as secretary.
For the fifth year, the board is augmented by the addition of two students from Lakeland Union High School – Maya Petersen and Zach Steinberger – who serve in an advisory capacity to the board. In addition, for the first time, a student at Nicolet College, Katelyn Robbins, will serve the board in an advisory capacity. Katelyn was an active student member last year from LUHS and expressed an interest in continuing to serve in an advisory capacity.
The LPAA is sponsored, in part, by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board and the Northern Arts Council.
