Business Close-up: Holiday Stables offers horseback riding fun
Round up the gang and head on over to Holiday Stables in Rhinelander for some horseback riding and country fun this summer. Cowboy Steve Krier is back in town working with a beautiful herd of horses in addition to a few adorable additions to his stable.
While Steve travels the country buying and selling horses during the winter months, in the spring and summer this affable cowboy settles in Rhinelander and runs the Holiday Stable. A new face this year is Melody Bilden, his fiancé. Melody will be helping at the stable, caring for the horses and leading trail rides.
Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome at Holiday Stables. No need to be an experienced rider here as all the horses are gentle and friendly. Adults will find just the perfect mount while kids under age 7 can double up with a parent or guardian. Tiny tots can even ride a small pony while being lead around the stables.
Trail rides last about an hour and riders will find viewing Northwoods scenery from the back of a horse breathtaking. This trail ride winds around through woods and lakes and riders are likely to see all kinds of wildlife. There is even a scavenger hunt during the ride and if a rider spots all 10 of the items in the hunt, they are eligible for a free ride.
In addition to daily rides, there are also special outings held throughout the week. Every night but Tuesday, a horse-drawn wagon ride is available and makes stops at five different establishments which are all family friendly. Dinner is served at the last stop.
Another unforgettable outing is the cowboy breakfast which is served in the middle of the woods. This ride takes place on Thursdays at 8 a.m. and participants can ride the wagon or a horse into the forest where a true cowboy-style breakfast is cooked and served.
Visitors will be impressed with the beautiful horses that pull the wagons. Ed and Ted are rare blue roan Belgians while Jake and Jasper are identical brothers with their honey-colored manes and golden fur.
In addition to trail rides, visitors will also delight in all the critters Steve and Melody are taking care of this summer. There is a flock of beautiful red chickens, a couple of baby bunnies and two goats kids and adults are welcome to pet or feed. New this year are two very adorable babies which include a donkey and a miniature pony. All of these animals are friendly and welcome attention and lots of petting and cuddles.
