Community members invited to participate in Nicolet College?s Poetry Project in April
In honor of April as National Poetry Month, Nicolet College is holding its Fourth Annual Poetry Project to celebrate.
Community members, along with Nicolet students and staff, are encouraged to submit their original poems to be posted on the college’s online Poetry Project blog during the month of April.
“There’s a real pleasure in reading poetry and sharing the creative experience that poetry gives us,” Ocie Kilgus, project organizer and English and Spanish instructor in Nicolet’s University Transfer Liberal Arts program, said. “With the Poetry Project, we wanted to create a platform for people to come together to read what others have written and also submit their own works. We encourage anyone who is interested to participate.”
Throughout the month of April, Kilgus will post submissions online at nicoletpoetry.blogspot.com.
Aspiring poets interested in submitting works can email them to Kilgus at [email protected].
Anyone submitting a poem is asked to include their name, the title of the poem and a comment about themselves. Poems can also be submitted anonymously, if the writer desires.
At the end of the month instructors in the college’s University Transfer Liberal Arts program will select the best poem from a community member and a student.
The community member with the best poem will win free tickets to plays by the Nicolet Players during the 2014-15 season.
The student with the best poem will win a $100 cash prize, a $50 gift certificate from Book World, and will be honored at the college’s Student Awards Ceremony May 6.
