Number of deer harvested down in opening weekend
The number of deer harvested in the opening weekend of the deer gun season dropped sharply from a year ago.
The weekend total at the Rhinelander DNR office was 199 bucks and 80 antlerless deer. Last year, the Rhinelander office had 227 bucks, 110 does.
Buck registration is down 12 percent from last year.
Across Oneida County, buck registration is down 20 percent from last year and Vilas County saw a drop of 27 percent.
State wide, buck registration was down 25 percent, while the overall deer registration including anterless deer was down 17.8.
