First Person: Pet supply drive at Menards
May is National Pet Month and Menards in Rhinelander is helping celebrate in a big way. The home improvement store has teamed up with the Oneida County Humane Society and is holding a pet supply drive throughout the month. We recently spoke with Troy Tesch, general manager of Menards in Rhinelander, to learn more about the pet supply drive.
Star Journal: Is this the first time your store has participated in this drive?
Troy Tesch: Yes, this is our first year sponsoring a pet supply drive at our store. There are other Menards in the regional area that are holding similar drives, all to support a local animal-related organization. We decided to partner with the Humane Society in Rhinelander to help give back to our local community, and the folks there were very receptive and excited about the opportunity.
SJ: What kinds of products are being donated?
TT: We’re collecting new and unwrapped pet supplies. The kinds of products that have already been donated range from chew toys to dog food. There isn’t a limit or requirement for the types of products, as long as they’re in their original packaging. We have one box located near the checkout registers so customers can simply donate as they exit the store. As the box fills up, we’re delivering it to the Humane Society.
SJ: How has the turnout of the drive been thus far?
TT: Just in the first few days of the month, we’ve already seen a great turnout. It’s very evident to see that there is a strong public interest in giving back to the community and we’ve noticed an increased interest in our customers wanting to give towards this cause. We’re anticipating an excellent first-year turnout by the end of the month.
