Lakeland Performing Arts presents Home Free concert
Home Free, a male a cappella group, will perform at the Lakeland Union High School auditorium Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m. the concert is part of the 2012-2013 concert season presented by the Lakeland Performing Arts Association.
Built upon the acoustic beauty of a cappella singing and combined with a vocal percussionist, Home Free has been amazing audiences all over the Midwest since 2000.
Eschewing traditional forms of a cappella, Home Free is carving new ground, expanding their audience’s horizons, and introducing its own unique flavor to the musical world. Their genre of music is an expansive mix from pop to classical and even techno, all successfully done with the only the human voice and microphones. This music is put to the explosive beats of one the most exciting vocal percussionists in the a cappella scene.
Although the group originated in Mankato, Minn., it books tours all over the world, performing at everything from elite black-tie events to casual high school assemblies. They have performed for a diverse clientele ranging from the Minnesota Vikings to Celebrity Cruises to the Mall of America. They also devote their time to educating and encouraging music in public schools through innovative workshops and performances for students. Concert fundraising has garnered thousands of dollars for schools in Minnesota.
