Rennes Health and Rehab Center to open in March
Finishing touches are going in at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center on Navajo Street in Rhinelander. This brand-new 72-bed facility will accommodate those needing short-term care after surgery or specific rehabilitation services, in addition to those needing 24-hour permanent nursing care.
Last week, representatives for the facility were in Rhinelander interviewing prospective employees. They are expecting to hire at least 20 people to work at Rennes Health and Rehab Center. “We are planning to open the doors on March 1, so we want to have everything ready to go,” said Shelly Sontag, regional director of operations.
In addition to accepting new patients, there will be about 35 to 40 patients and residents from the Phelps Rennes facility that will be moving to Rhinelander, along with employees.
The Rhinelander facility is one of six rehab facilities that are owned and operated by Tim and Debbie Rennes. Besides Rhinelander, these centers are located in Appleton/Fox Cities, DePere/Green Bay, East Peshtigo, West Peshtigo and Weston/Wausau. There are also five assisted living facilities in DePere, Appleton, Weston, Marinette and Wisconsin Rapids.
Ground breaking for the buildings started about a year ago. While construction is still in progress, it is evident that this facility will have a Northwoods flair when completed. There are plenty of beamed ceilings, a big fieldstone fireplace in the lobby, and beautiful landscaping is already evident despite the snow.
Room sizes for patients will vary. “We will have private rooms, semi-private rooms and super semi-private rooms,” said Sontag. The facility will provide a multitude of services for area residents.
Occupational therapy patients will enjoy self-care and home management techniques, therapeutic exercises and eye-hand coordination methods. Orthotics, cognitive retraining related to daily living activities and visual perceptual retraining will also be provided.
Speech therapy will also be available at Rennes, including dysphasia (swallowing) therapy, expressive and receptive communication, and cognitive retraining. Rehab specialties will include joint replacement therapy, orthopedic post-hospital care, stroke and neurological rehab, adaptive equipment availability, pre-discharge home evaluations, family education and instruction, and personalized care plans for families and their loved ones.
For those needing more comprehensive programs, 24-hour RN services will be available, including IV therapy, advanced wound management, tracheotomy care, infectious disease care, stroke and cardiac-related problems, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
Patients will also enjoy spacious television lounges, hospice services, daily recreational activities and outings, outdoor patios and gardens, spiritual services, and beautician and barber services.
The facility will encompass 63,000 square feet, with 51,000 square feet for patient care and 12,000 square feet for support staff, including laundry facilities.
“We are very proud that this is a family-owned facility,” said Sontag. “For more than 30 years the Rennes Group has specialized in providing quality and personalized care for seniors and we are looking forward to providing that in Rhinelander.”
