Rhinelander Swim Club: The start of a new year
There were 28 Rhinelander Swim Club members who travelled to Ladysmith Jan. 5 to compete against Eau Claire Aquatics, Medford, Rice Lake, Lakeland and Flambeau Area swim teams. Although their numbers were small, RSC members had a great day in the pool.
Maria Heck (8) dropped 10.32 seconds in her 25-yard breaststroke for a new time of 38.47 seconds; Grace Ribbe (10) took 7.15 seconds off her 100-yard freestyle for a new time of 1:33.47; Mabel Spencer (9) took off 5.21 seconds in her 100-yard freestyle event for a new time of 1:49.44; and Emily Tinsman (8) dropped 9.94 seconds from her 50-yard freestyle for a new personal best of 1:03.39.
A few swimmers took first overall in their events. Russell Benoy (11) in the 200-yard breaststroke had a time of 3:17.03; James Heck (7) in the 50-yard freestyle had a time of 56.19 seconds; and Conor Natrop (13) in the 100-yard breaststroke had a time of 2:09.92. Finishing in the top 10 of their events were Annika Benoy (four events); Russell Benoy (three events); Angelika Catlin; Miranda Erdmann (three events); James Heck (two events); Maria Heck (two events); Thaddeus Heck (four events); Martin Hoger (three events); Brodie Kasmarek (two events); Brody Kowieski (three events); Jackson Ledbetter (three events); Marisa McGuire; Conor Natrop (two events); Valerie Puza (two events); Grace Ribbe; Annalyse Schoppe (two events); Jacob Schoppe (four events); Sam Schoppe (three events);Lulu Spencer; Trecci Spencer (two events); and Sierra Woodford (three events).
Rhinelander Swim Club will host their Freezing Season Invitational Saturday, Jan. 12.
