Wisconsin Treasurer to pay out more than $500,000 from unclaimed property unit in one day
(MADISON) State Treasurer Kurt Schuller announced that his staff in the Unclaimed Property unit will pay out $547,194 today.
“This is the greatest news to share,” State Treasurer Kurt Schuller said. “It is always nice to hand over a check to its rightful owner or heir, but 91 in a day totaling more than half a million dollars is downright delightful!”
The largest checks sent to Wisconsinites are going to two business people in the Milwaukee area for $15,000 and $111,000.
There is more than $400 million dollars in unclaimed assets held by the State Treasury. This money comes from forgotten paychecks, insurance premium overpayments, utility deposits, forgotten bank accounts, forgotten stocks, abandoned safe deposit boxes and many other forms of assets that have been lost, forgotten about or that people did not know they had. There are more than 2 million “properties” held by the Office of State Treasurer. You can search for missing money 24/7 online at www.wismissingmoney.com or call 855-375-CASH (2274)
