Convicted sex offender to be released in Rhinelander
Albert Chagnon (DOB 02/18/1982) will be released from prison on Aug. 28, and will be retuning to the Rhinelander community. He is not wanted by the police at this time.
“This notification is not intended to increase fear,” said Rhinelander Police Chief Michael Steffes. “Rather, it is the Rhinelander Police Department’s belief that an informed public is a safer public.”
Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but is was not until the WI Sex Offender Registry and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated.
On May 25, 2003, Chagnon was convicted of Possession of Child Pornography. According to case details, not only was Chagnon was in possession of child pornography, he sent images via email to another party. In adition, on June 18, 2010, he was convicted of failing to maintain his court ordered sex offender registry.
On Aug. 28, Chagnon will be released from prison. He will be on community supervision through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Chagnon will be residing at 17 West Prospect St. in Rhinelander.
Mr. Chagnon will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program. The WI Sex Offender Registry can be located at widocoffenders.org.
