At its Annual Board Meeting in May, John Allen was re-elected as president of the Lakeland Performing Arts Association. Also re-elected to support him was Deane Galloway as vice president and Sally Kunkel as secretary. A long time board member, Tom Sommerfeld was re-elected treasurer.
All of the officers bring experience and a passion for the arts to their responsibilities of leadership of the organization. That same passion is shared by the rest of the board members, including several who are new to the board this year. For the third year, the board is augmented by the addition of two students from LUHS, Melissa Lisowski and Michael Orlowski. They will serve in an advisory capacity to the board.
For 31 years, the Lakeland Performing Arts Board has sponsored first class live entertainment in the Minocqua area. All of the performances are held in the Lakeland Union High School auditorium. This year’s series is once again filled with variety, energy, talented artists and a bit of nostalgia. The group strives to bring popular, as well as classical offerings to their Lakeland audience. You can be traveling down an exciting new musical road or have your toes tapping to the sound of old favorites.
The series opens with “New Odyssey”, Three guys, 30 instruments, together for 30 years-still one heck of a show. This late September offering will be followed by “Classical Gas”, a piano, violin comedy duo in early November; “Home Free”, a male A Cappella group that mixes pop songs with classical; “Cahal Dunne”, a songwriter, masterful pianist, comedian, and one of Ireland’s best vocalists in early April. The season then closes with “Take Me Home”, the music of John Denver starring Jim Curry in early May.
