Library Foundation planning for annual luncheon and style show
On the first Tuesday of every month (except July) at 8:30 in the morning, 25 citizens from Rhinelander and the surrounding towns descend the stairs of the Rhinelander Public Library to the meeting room on the lower level. The Rhinelander District Library Foundation begins its monthly meetings, called to order by President Linda Davidson, with the purpose of providing financial assistance to the library.
Not to be confused with the RDL Library Board, the foundation plans and executes a variety of activities such as the Holiday Book Fund and a yearly capital campaign for repairs to the building and grounds of library. This year it has taken on an additional event, the Dèjà Vu Luncheon and Style Show, planned for Aug. 20 this summer. Many of the foundation members and a few of the library staff will be models in the “UnFURgettable Frills and FURbelows” style show that will begin at 11 a.m. at the Northwoods Banquet Center on Pueblo Drive in Rhinelander.
Foundation members Gale Willcox, Karen Knoell and Davidson are the driving forces behind the style show, and have been since 2005, though in the past the proceeds went to the Northern Arts Council. Paul Knuth, foundation member, will be the emcee for the event, which will feature a “Gilded Purse” raffle, door prizes, musical entertainment by the Woodland Strings, an abundance of local specialties that can be purchased at the boutique, and the surprise appearance of a “character” known to many.
To support the wonderful services provided by our public library, tickets can be purchased in advance from Davidson at (715) 369-1136, Knoell at (715) 369-2110 or Willcox at (715) 362-6211.
